Seven Things to Keep in Mind while Designing a Website
Finally, you have decided you want to take your business idea to the next level or you have an active blog which is getting many visitors and you want to enhance their user experience or maybe you’re a fledgling entrepreneur on the lookout for new opportunities in retail, trade or maybe even E-commerce. Your website plays a vital role whether you decide to do a B2B or B2C.
85% of B2B companies search on the web engines when on the lookout for a potential partner and 75% users admitted to making a judgment about a company’s credibility based on their website. So, you get the idea how important is the design of the website. And here are a few pointers to keep in mind while designing a website:
- Clean Design
“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”, words of Leonardo Da Vinci and Apple Co-founder Steve Jobs followed this philosophy too and implemented it in his product design as well. So, if I sum it up, the important thing to remember while designing a website is to keep it clean and simple.
A clean design helps in navigating faster and makes the content more visible to the customers. This way they can read more about your company, products and services you offer rather than get distracted by graphic designs or background music.
- Effective Color Scheme
Color scheme is equally important in making the design look clean and simple. Different colors spark different emotions and that is what you should consider. For example, blue is associated with intellect, efficiency, logic, coolness etc. And white is associated with cleanness, purity, calm, simplicity etc. are the two widely used colors in the website design.
So, colors in the website help you demonstrate what the company is all about. No wonder why most cell phone companies have these two colors in their website.
- Brand’s Logo
Designing a company’s logo says a lot about the company. A logo should be eye catching but also designed with minimalistic effort and easy colors on the eye which defines a company. On the above point about color I mentioned about effective color schemes and wide use of color blue n white. Samsung’s and GE logo comes to my mind when I think about these two colors, it makes the logo look: Simple and Elegant. Website development services companies provide such services according to customer requirements.
- Navigation
Keep the first point in mind. Keep it simple. You’re user is an average person and if they find it difficult to navigate in the website, they’ll simply leave. Another thing would be to keep the loading time as fast as possible.
- Call to Action
A simple suggestion of ‘Contact us’ on the bottom of the webpage suggests that you’re interested in building a relationship with the customer and it also makes it easier for the customer to email you or call you for the queries.
- Active Blog
Don’t underestimate the value a blog adds to your website. An on-site blog will help you in keeping the customers updated about the company’s events, products, entertain or give knowledge about the products and the company. An updated blog can drive more traffic to the website, increase the SEO and improve customer relations.
- Mobile Sites vs. Responsive Sites
62% of companies which designed their website for mobile platforms increased their sales and 64% of companies that designed their website for tablets increased sales. (Source: Econsultancy)
If you read about two facts, you get an idea of how important mobile website is to the user. Over 80% smartphone users do web browsing with their mobile phones and 46% mobile users reported having difficulty with a webpage. So, do not underestimate the website design for the mobile and tablet users.
